Dervishes of steel

I don’t usually think in these terms, but I am a blessed man.
I don’t usually think in these terms, but I am a blessed man.
Still in limbo, waiting for the rest of the fam to get their act together and move in.
About a year or more ago, I realized I hadn’t been to the dentist in a while.
Went to Ravensfort with Steph and Paul (first local event in ages). Kevin came up afterwards.
Fenced lots — good practice for the first time in ages. Had fun hanging out with folks. Kevin got majorly injured.
The A&M folks gave me all sorts of good-natured flack all day.
Got all the school reading done that I’d brought. Little behind still, and the natives are getting restless. It’s like when I’m juggling, and I can sense when I get slightly off and the rhythm of the tosses becomes uncertain, long before it becomes visibly ragged. The usual progression from there is for the rhythm to fall further and further out of sequence until I can’t compensate anymore, and the whole comes down.
Hopefully, I can rebalance my classes after 10/15 and keep the act going through the end of the semester. 7372 service diary and executive interview must happen soon. Markstrat plan as well.
Met Kalen (sp?), who’s been with Alexis, Ulstead, and Krag on the armor research trips that Alexis puts together. He’s listened to Alan Williams lecture, and has had lunch with the man! Arrrgh.
Imagine me a bright, virulent shade of green.
I like bananas. Ripe and spotty.
So does my father.
And therein lies the bitter conflict, which has raged for countless months.
It’s that time of year again. Sharpen your weapons (metaphorically speaking) and shine your gear, ‘cos this year, we’re going to Dallas.
So what’m I taking? Beats me. We’re all waiting on class registration to be opened. What would I *like* to take?
Tristan rocks!
Oof, what’ve I done this past weekend?
Moved furniture. Slept half the night on the floor b/c I fell asleep while reading for school. Did a demo at A&M with SCA folks. Did some sewing on my gambeson, prepping layers for quilting.
Holidays are just a different kind of mad-busy. But that’s okay, b/c sleep is for the dead, right?
Well, not really, being the Saturday before Labor Day.
Anyway, Candice and TJ came in last night and crashed at my place. Today, we had a grand ol’ time of shining armor at the shop.
Picked up Mark, went down to Jay and Lauren’s, and had too much food. Played a silly hula hoop game in the front yard, played Cranium.
I, alas, mixed business with pleasure, and had some armoring stuff to do there: delivering Scott’s gorget, and doing a fitting on Stephanie’s noggin for her burgonet since this was easier than going to Austin.
I ran into a very attractive woman for the second time. It was at another 1/2 Price Books, where these things just seem to happen. Intelligent, tall, redhead, lean and lively. The first time, I let it pass. The second time, I took the chance and asked her out. She apologized, declined graciously. What could I do but retire in like wise? We talked for a bit, I made her laugh, then we parted.
I suppose the big lesson reinforced is how to be a gracious loser. It felt really good when she gave me a radiant smile, even after what would typically be an awkward moment. Somebody else might have handled it differently, but I think I done good enough.
